Fresh bread is the king on the dinner table of the Greek household.
Memories from the past, images of the women of the family preparing the stone wood burning oven, then shaping the loaves into round ones -kulures- and finally the aroma of the hot bread filling the air.
As an everyday ritual in Greece, the family breaks bread at supper to this day. Even stale bread is useful baked as rusks.
Equally traditional was the baking of pies, for years served as the main course of the Greek home.
All the women would take part in this. The grandmother would open the 'fillo', the mother would stuff the pie with fresh vegetables, spinach if in season, the daughter would bake it in the oven.
Following there are recipes carried down from generation to generation, for a nostalgic old-fashioned taste of Greece.
